SOME PAST ACTIVITIES OF GOLDEN CHANGE CONCERNED YOUTH FORUM

GCCYF has been winning tough battles against long odds since 2006. Most importantly, Health GCCYF plays a critical role in pushing the Community Development goals and strategic action movement towards audacious goals and have being winning—even in difficult political environment. The result is tangible change for people we work with.

Outcome:

  • Increased awareness for involvement of women in decision making in Kuchigoro

  • Community environment advocacy committee setup in Kuchigoro community.
  • 50 Women trained and capacity build on Advocacy and engagement of duty bearers
  • 500 kuchigoro community inhabitants signed a petition calling to stop force eviction, illegal land grabbing and depriving of means of livelihood  within kuchigoro community.
  • Advocacy committee visit senate rep of FCT and house of Rep AMAC / BWARI constituency to submit their petition calling to stop force eviction, illegal land grabbing and depriving of means of livelihood.
  • Senate committee for FCT stop engaged stakeholders to stop all illegal land grabbing in kuchigoro community
  • Advocacy/ dialogue to Abuja Environmental Protection Board resulting in adequate and efficient waste disposal within kuchigoro community.

  • To reach 70% of MARPS (MSM, IDU and FSWs) with comprehensive HIV/AIDS Prevention in the targeted community
  • To reduce 60% of MTCT

Project objective

Increase in informed demand and uses of malaria prevention and treatment products and services by conducting community mobilization activities in FCT Abuja

Outcome:

  • Key malaria symptoms, causes, treatment and Prevention was communicated to the communities
  • distribution of over 6000 copies of IEC materials
  • distribution of 8340 long lasting treated mosquito net

Project objective

  • To increase the culture of reading among youth
  • Raising credible leaders by mentoring
  • Imbedding the spirit of team work among Teenagers and youth

  • 40 youth trained on teamwork
  • 60 youth mentor to become future leaders

  • 684 youth HIV counsel and tested.
  • All HIV positive clients were Refer to and managed by Heart to Heart center- saint Mary’s hospital, Gwagwalada.
  • Promotion of behavioral changes and reduction of stigma and discrimination of AYP people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Each year beauty queen chooses a pet project that brought about attitude, behavioral changes and reduction of stigma and discrimination of PLWHA especially AYP.
  • Establishment of 1 HIV club for AYP

  • Increased awareness of the dangers in illicit drug Abuse
  • Reduction in illicit drug abuse in the youth’s group in the area.
  • Networking of the various youth within the Area, thereby uniting them against illicit drug abuse.

  • Advocacy and sensitization to help increase community awareness and acceptance.
  • Baseline survey (participatory research) needs assessment of Orphan and Vulnerable Children.
  • Setting criteria for admitting children into the (FSP) family strengthening programme of SOS children village Gwagwalada.

  • Identification of OVCS for (FSP) family strengthening programme

  • To support families and caregivers to build their capacity to protect and care for their children.
  • Provide alternative out of school programme or vocational training for children who dropped out of formal education system.

Scope:-

  • 5 secondary and 4 primary schools in Gwagwalada metropolis

Activities:

  • Enlightenment of pupils on dangers of nefarious activities such as examination malpractice Drugs and Crime.

Outcome of the Project

  • Distribution of enlightenment materials on the dangers of illicit drugs to the participants
  • The strengthen of 5 schools drugs club
  • Training of 250 student and enlighten them on dangers of drugs
